Turn a column into a comma-separated list

The comma separator tool joins one value per line into a delimited list, or splits a separated list back into individual lines. Choose commas, semicolons, pipes, tabs, spaces, or your own separator, then add quotes when the destination needs them.

Column-to-list examples

A column of email addresses

Input

alex@example.com
sam@example.com

Result

alex@example.com,sam@example.com

Use Lines → separated list, Comma, and No quotes. Copy the result into a field that accepts comma-separated addresses; this only formats the text and does not send email or check whether an address exists.

Values for a SQL IN list

Input

red
blue
O'Brien

Result

'red','blue','O''Brien'

Choose Single quotes with a comma separator. The tool doubles embedded quote characters. Add parentheses in your query editor if needed, and use parameterized queries when building application SQL from untrusted values.

A quoted CSV line back to a column

Input

"Smith, John","Jones, Sam"

Result

Smith, John
Jones, Sam

Choose Separated list → lines, Comma, and Double quotes under Read quoted values. The comma inside each quoted name stays part of the name. For a whole table with column headers, use the CSV to JSON converter.

How to delimit a list

  1. Paste your column or use Open file to read a text file from your device. You can also drop the file into the input area.
  2. Choose the direction and separator. Select a quote style if your receiving application expects quoted values.
  3. Check the cleanup options before converting: trimming and removing blank lines are enabled initially, while duplicate removal is optional.
  4. Review the output, then copy or download it. Use output as input if you want to continue cleaning the result with another text tool.

Comma separator questions

Will my list be uploaded?

No. Joining, splitting, and file reading happen in your browser. The tool does not send the text or file contents to MySafeInfo, and using it requires neither a Data Pass nor an account.

Can I keep blank lines and surrounding spaces?

Yes. Turn off Remove blank lines and Trim surrounding spaces in List cleanup. These settings affect values before they are joined or returned as lines, so review them when whitespace carries meaning.

Does wrapping add backslashes around quotes?

No. Double quotes produce actual quote characters around each value. A matching quote inside a value is doubled, as in CSV-style quoting, rather than preceded by a backslash.

How large a list can I convert?

Input is limited to 10 MiB and 250,000 values. Very large output and long-running conversions are also stopped to keep the page responsive. Split a larger list into smaller selections before processing it.

When to use a table converter instead

This tool formats a flat list; it does not validate SQL, email addresses, or the structure of a multi-column spreadsheet.
